The municipality of Chirpan is situated in the Upper Thracian Lowlands, in the southwestern part of the region of Stara Zagora. The municipality borders the municipalities of Stara Zagora to the east, Bratya Daskalovi to the northwest, Parvomai from the Plovdiv region to the southwest and, to the south, along the valley of Maritsa River - Dimitrovgrad from the Haskovo region.
The town of Chirpan is situated:
- 201 km from the capital city of Sofia,
- 51 km from Plovdiv, where the nearest international airport is located,
- 39 km southwest from the region's administrative center, Stara Zagora and
- 218 km from Burgas, the nearest Black Sea port.
The municipality of Chirpan occupies an area of 522.9 square km, representing 10.18% of the Stara Zagora region. Living in the town of Chirpan, and the twenty (20) villages which together make up the municipality of Chirpan, is a population 24,400.
